When we talk about "Percent", we mean "per hundred"
50% means 50 per 100
(50% of this box is coloured)
25% means 25 per 100
(25% of this box is coloured)
100% means ALL (100/100)
For example,
100% (or ALL) of 80 = 80
This is calculated using the method
100/100 x 80 = 80
50% means HALF
50% (or HALF) of 80 = 40
This is calculated using the method
50/100 x 80 = 40
25% means QUARTER
25% (or QUARTER) of 80 = 20
This is calculated using the method
25/100 x 80 = 20
5% means 5/100ths (5/100)
5% of 80 = 4
This is calculated using the method
5/100 x 80 = 4
Because Percent means "per 100" you should think
"this should be divided by 100".
EXAMPLE:
75% means 75/100
75% of 200 =
75/100 x 200 =
150
100% is 100/100 or exacly 1 (100% of any number is just the number, unchanged)
100% of 200 =
100/100 x 200 =
200
200% is 200/100 or exactly 2 (200% of any number is twice the number)
200% of 200 =
200/100 x 200 =
400
